In Southern Italy, near Naples, in a city on the slopes of Vesuvius, Torre del Greco, Gaetano Scognamiglio was born on February 19, 1910. He was one of 10 sons and daughters of the only doctor in Torre del Greco. Since he was a child he was very attracted to corals and cameos and thanks to his father's knowledge, at the age of 14, he began to work as a traveler for one of the oldest companies in Torre del Greco until 1928, when at the age of 18 , founded his own company called GASCO (GAetano SCOgnamiglio) and started working corals and cameos.
Great willpower, humble character and great dedication to one's work were the qualities that helped his company to grow more and more. In the 1950s his sons Rosario and Michele began to help him, who was very busy on frequent business trips abroad, which at the time lasted days just to move from one country to another. Gaetano continued to work until his last days despite being almost 90 years old. After his death on October 23, 1999, Rosario's son Paolo began working as sales manager in the company, and thanks to his Japanese and English language aptitudes he expanded the company's contacts to Japan and America. Today Casco S.R.L. is the leading producer of coral and cameos, using traditional methods that have been around for over 5000 years. We pay great attention to every detail, from the selection of raw materials to cutting and sculpting into beautiful one-of-a-kind creations. Our craftsmen combine a blend of the old traditional techniques with the new in creating magnificent works of art. It's no wonder that coral and cameo creations are passed down from generation to generation as treasured heirlooms.
